When we buy, use and re-use resources efficiently, we see big benefits.
We minimise our effect on the environment. We reduce costs, for us and for our partners. We also become more resilient to challenges caused by climate change, such as shortages of resources and changing regulations. To do this we focus on four areas: carbon, renewable energy, energy management and waste.
We have a Company-wide Environmental and Energy Management System, with both ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certification. ISO 14001 is an environmental management system that checks we’re compliant in things like handling hazardous substances and waste management. ISO 50001 is an energy management system that keeps us in line with the government’s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) and drives energy reductions. We also offer Green Leases as standard to our tenants in all of our contracts.
An innovation in the City
At 20 Fenchurch Street - which we sold in August 2017 - we introduced a truly innovative energy solution: hydrogen fuel cell technology, similar to that originally developed for the Apollo and Shuttle space missions. The fuel cell – the first to be installed in the City of London – uses gas to produce electricity and heat efficiently, quietly and reliably, with zero emissions.
