Landsec has let the fourth floor of its landmark net zero office development, The Forge, SE1 to leading carbon capture firm, Carbon Clean. The 9,400 sq ft deal highlights the growing demand for prime workspace in Southwark, where Landsec is delivering a one million sq ft green office cluster. Carbon Clean is a global leader in carbon capture solutions for industrial companies, headquartered in London. The company is scaling rapidly as demand for carbon capture surges around the world, and it has selected The Forge as its new HQ to accommodate its growing team. The Forge was opened in April 2023 by Chris Skidmore MP and it is the UK’s first commercial development to have been designed in line with the UK Green Building Council’s definition of a net zero building. It is also the first office to be built using the highly sustainable platform approach to design for manufacture and assembly (P-DfMA). Located adjacent to the Tate Modern in the heart of Bankside, The Forge provides 140,000 sq ft of office space across two buildings, Bronze and Phosphor, which are positioned around an open public courtyard. Sustainability and wellness have been embedded throughout the space, which was named the Best New Place to Work at The Building London Planning Awards. Alongside traditional blank canvas space in the Bronze building, The Forge is also home to Myo, Landsec’s flexible office brand. Myo Bankside will open this year and occupy the whole of the Phosphor building, providing 48,000 sq ft of design-led flexible workspace, meeting rooms and events spaces. Private offices are available from 10 desks up to whole floors for teams of 50+ on flexible leases. The demand for space is competitive, and as businesses look to meet their ESG targets, truly sustainable and quality spaces will outperform. The Forge, along with our wider pipeline of green office space in Bankside, is well placed to respond to market trends and capitalise on the continued flight to prime.” Aniruddha Sharma, Chair and CEO of Carbon Clean said: “Given Carbon Clean’s commitment to achieving industrial decarbonisation and a net zero future, we are delighted to find a new headquarters that aligns with our mission. Carbon Clean has doubled in size in the last year and we were looking for premises that could accommodate our ongoing growth and provide a high quality environment for our staff, partners and customers. London is a global centre for climate technology and services and we’re looking forward to continuing to lead in carbon capture from our new home in The Forge.” Starting with the development of Bankside 123 over a decade ago, Landsec has a long history in Southwark and is now investing further in the borough. Landsec’s pipeline in Southwark includes a cluster of green offices: The Forge, Timber Square, Liberty of Southwark, and Red Lion Court, which recently achieved planning permission. The Forge was designed by architects Piercy & Co and Bryden Wood. Construction was led by a joint venture between Mace and Sir Robert McAlpine and the leasing agents are CBRE and Union Street Partners. Ends
